Water Wraiths were a type of small, aquatic, fish-like Rahi with poison covering their outer shells. Makuta Teridax once used the Water Wraith as a metaphor for the other Brotherhood of Makuta members, some 80,000 years before the invasion of Karda Nui. A Water Wraith would often allow itself to be eaten by larger Rahi as an aggressive tactic. The Wraith's deadly poison would kill the larger creature from the inside and the Water Wraith could then feed until a larger being ate the corpse.

- Water wraith (formerly Ondina) is a monster who appears in VI.
- Water wraiths are eight-legged aquatic lizards native to the Mwangi Expanse, but can be found throughout Garund. These lizards have the ability to change color at will, often using their camouflage to lie in wait for their prey, which they attack viciously with their toothy, lamprey-like mouths. Their eight powerful legs make water wraiths equally mobile and fast in water as on land.

Their eight powerful legs make water wraiths equally mobile and fast in water as on land. In addition to their roles as exotic pets or savage guard dogs, water wraiths have spawned numerous superstitions involving their color-changing abilities and uncanny intelligence. Some superstitions state that the lizards turn red (the color of a feeding frenzy) when feeding on the innocent, and green if their prey has a guilty conscience. In the Osirian town of Ziloth, a tank of water wraiths are employed to try accused criminals based on such a belief.
