With two divisions' first rounds in the books, we hadn't really seen a true godslaying performance yet. Then Melee came out with over 90% of the vote early on against Guitar Hero 2 and changed all that. Hilarious blowouts are always fun to watch, and this was no different. Melee came out looking like a champ, bled percentage for quite a while and still came out looking like a champ. Blowouts like this simply don't happen anymore. At least, we thought they didn't. It was one of the biggest blowouts in the history of our contests, and it was the first shot across the bow for the Melee vs Brawl war. It was also further proof that rhythm games are done here, assuming you thought the Deus Ex > Rock Band match was a fluke.

The first two divisions were unpredictable in their own way, but the East was easy. Melee vs Brawl were going to crush everything in their way, meet in the divisional finals and the winner was going to have an outstanding chance at winning the entire contest. Nothing was going to get in the way of this.
