The enchantments upon the blade reflected his early obsession with destruction. The axe blade and counterbalancing hammerhead draw upon the power of the inscribed Sith runes. Long ago, a crystalline life-form - akin to a Shard or a Tsil - threatened to dominate a portion of the Unknown Regions. It was shattered and sealed away, but then forgotten. Its life-spark remained in a single shard, which was handed down by its keepers until an unwise king mounted it on his crown. It corrupted him and his heirs, and caused decades of war on pretechnological Joy and several other primitive worlds. An alliance of primitive peoples - Joyites, Kotala and others - were able to take the fight to the enemy's home planet. The predecessors of the Jukre Star Sailors cast down the enemy, but were unable to destroy the crown or the being within it. Only after the crown was submerged in a lake of molten lead did its baleful influence cease. The native species bombed itself to extinction only decades later. It was on that dead world that Kishkumen spent his time trapped in the Unknown Regions. He excavated and secured the crystalline life-form, matched and dominated its powers, learned from it and bound it to serve as a new focusing crystal for Sundering. The life-form's bound power expanded the strength of the alchemical axe, and a weapon originally capable of splitting stone and armor became something transcendant: That Which Breaketh All. When wielded by a powerful Force-sensitive, it can shatter the most indestructible of Sith swords. Even quantum armour yields to its bite. Sundering is the name given it by Kishkumen. He lost the weapon upon his death on Kothlis at the hands of Temap; it was recovered secretly by Velok, studied extensively by Ahkris, and eventually given to Ashin Varanin. Varanin did not know its name, but - perhaps through unknowingly using Knowledge by Instinct - also named it Sundering.
