| - Vola V was the fifth planet in the Vola star system, located within Sector Four and in Federation space, in the Alpha or the Beta Quadrant. It was the site of an abandoned Orion colony resettled by Federation colonists. It was a class N planet, with a 24-hour-day and no moons. The terrestrial atmosphere had an arctic climate. Vola was covered almost entirely by water, with 0.00003% of the surface being land. It was a cold world, frequently swept by vast storms of snow and sometimes rain. However, it was formerly an Orion agricultural world, with great quantities of food gathered by semi-submerged factory-cities that moved between the harvest-fields under their own power. These were well-equipped and huge; the smallest 600 meters across, while the largest could be over 15 kilometers. It was also the location for a battle in the Four Years War. After the Klingons captured the planet, they ordered the immediate evacuation of all the Orion colonists; they complied, but not before sinking their cities in revenge. The largest and best of these rested thousands of fathoms deep, in freezing cold water, making them nearly impossible to salvage. The Orion refugees were later resettled by the Rigel Demilitarized Zone Commission on the world of Tini, where they stayed. After the war, Federation colonists of various mixed races came to the world, and by the late 23rd century they had only recently begun to farm the vast oceans. Unfortunately, they lacked the superior Orion technology that still lay on the ocean floor; theirs was small and less efficient in comparison. Ironically, the Orions were the primary buyers for most of Vola's harvest. Vola V had a technological/sociopolitical index of 589683-98 and a planetary trade profile of AAEBDEG/B(X). It had a total surface area of 520,363,640 square kilometers, but with only 0.00003% land mass, land area was barely 156 square kilometres. It was made up of only 13% normal metals, 2% radioactive elements, 7% industrial crystals and 2% special minerals, with trace amounts of gemstones.
