- Technically, any key could have been used for this purpose, but the one they settled on was "@." Strangely, however, the key "@" predates e-mail and, in fact, the computer keyboard, going all the way back into the typewriter era. This makes "@" the only key on the typewriter that had no meaning whatsoever. So, how did it get there? It's kind of a funny story.

Pochodzi z języka angielskiego, gdzie pierwotnie znaczył at (przy). Inni wywodzą go z łacińskiego słowa apud (wystarczy przeczytać od końca, by się domyślić, o co tu chodzi). Według innej teorii, w pewnym komputerze litera a dostała kręcioła i w takiej formie się rozpowszechniła. Przykładowy adres poczty elektronicznej brzmi zatem Jan.Kowalski(małpa)nonsensopedia.wikia.com. I tak istnieje dowód na to, że ewolucja może toczyć się w odwrotną stronę – komputer widzi nas już jako małpy. Jest też bohaterem gier komputerowych dla nerdów, gdzie zajmuje się zabijaniem liter i zbieraniem znaków interpunkcyjnych.
- The @ sign (known as the schwa) was first introduced in 1973 as a means of punctuating email addresses, separating the user name on the left from the site or computer identifier on the right.
- <@> is a "secret" monster unique to the Void. He is a reference to early roguelike games, where the player character is represented by the "@" symbol. Because the void adds 50 levels every time you go down 50 floors, he does not have a set level. The statistics displayed here are the lowest level he can be encountered at. He will only attack normally, almost exclusively with melee attacks. He does not appear to have any other abilities.
