  • Backbiter is the name of Luke Castellan's sword. It is made of two fused metals- steel and celestial bronze. Steel affects mortals, but not gods or monsters. Celestial bronze affects gods and monsters, but not mortals. Therefore, Backbiter is the only weapon that can kill gods, monsters and mortals. It is later reforged into the Bronze Scythe.
  • Backbiter is Luke Castellan's sword which, in The Battle of the Labyrinth, is revealed to be a modified version of Kronos' Scythe.
  • Backbiter is the warp stalker pet of Warp-Huntress Kula.
  • Backbiter (Backbiter +3 in-game) is a cursed spear +3 which can't be removed from the weapon slot without the Remove Curse spell, and it inflicts 3 piercing to the wielder upon a successful hit. As curses go, this is relatively small price to pay, and a character with high enough hit points, possibly with some hp regeneration from 20+ Constitution, and no need to switch weapons during combat, may even decide that the THAC0 +3 is worth it.

Despite the fact the statistics claim this weapon has speed factor of 6 in Baldur's Gate II, it's actually 3 in the game files.
