Napoleon II (March 20, 1811 - October 3, 1849) (born Napoleon Francois Joseph Charles Bonaparte) was the second Emperor of France, reigning from 1844 until his overthrow in 1845, but had reigned as Prince Regent since 1832 throughout his father's prolonged illness. A weak and ineffectual Emperor, he was deeply unpopular, was goaded into making poor foreign policy decisions by his advisors and was eventually overthrown by an army raised by his younger brothers Louis and Maurice in 1845 following the War of Napoleonic Succession. He lived out the remainder of his years at Elba, where he died in 1849 of a stomach cancer.
