Andre the Giant (1800-1993) was the original "big guy" wrestler. Born in a little town in France, he grew up to be over 9 feet tall, and weighed more than 800 pounds. He started off wrestling bears and lions in freak shows, but was later discovered by Creative Genius Vince McMahon. McMahon, the Creative Genius, booked Andre to be undefeated for 50 years straight, never getting bodyslammed, or even knocked off his feet. This all paid off as at WrestleMania III Hulk Hogan famously bodyslammed Andre, tearing every muscle in Hogan's back and creating a tsunami that sunk Atlantis, then pinning him in a ***** Classic. Luckily, Hogan had his daughter Brooke to massage his back. Andre died the next day, six years later.

Andre has never been an easy character to describe. He lives to this day and is a firm memory in many minds. In his lifetime, Andre has discovered LSD, written many critically-acclaimed books and has been raped several times. Andre is known for his size (10ft 2", 3.1 m) and is noted as being the only person to have beaten Flea at a gardening competition. It has recently been discovered by leading scientists that he is not actually a giant, but that the rest of us are actually undersized.
  • Andre the Giant, real name André Rene Roussimoff (Bulgarian: Андрей Рене Русимов; Polish: Andrzej Renat Russimow; 1946-93) was a professional wrestler well-known for his impressive size. You may also remember him as Fezzik from the motion picture adaptation of The Princess Bride. During his tenure in the WWF (or the WWE as it is called now), he was dubbed "The Eighth Wonder of the World" due to his frame, and held a fifteen-year undefeated streak in the company (with the exception of disqualification and count-out losses). One of the most famous matches of his career was against Hulk Hogan for Hogan's WWF World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania III. Unfortunately, his great size was due to gigantism, and he suffered intense pain throughout his body, especially as he got older. On January 27, 1993, shortly following his retirement from professional wrestling, he died in his sleep from congestive heart failure. In his honor, the WWF made Andre the first inductee into the company's Hall of Fame, established that same year. As usual, That Other Wiki has a nice read-up on his life and career.
