The Skyrock Mountains are a rocky, mountainous area somewhere near Monster World in the Wonder Boy series. Consisting of one large floating hill surrounded by dozens of smaller floating structures, the towering outcrop is the perfect location for cosmologists to gaze at the stars, as well as being a quiet retreat for philosophers and poets to do their thinking. The whole area is dwarfed by the Light Tower, a lighthouse structure designed to stop travellers from The Void crashing into the mountains. Due to an unexplained ancient catastrophe, the entire region of the mountains was ripped from Monster World and now float over the void.

One day, the Skyrock Mountains were invaded by dinosaur ghosts from Ghost World. The Dinosaur King had established a link to the mountains with help from the Wailing Sisters of Witchery World and their Power Jar, intending to claim back the world that was stolen from them by humans. Their first plan was to conquer the Skyrock Mountains, before moving on to Monster World across the void. For some time, dinosaur troops were sent to attack the Skyrock Mountain homes. Philosophers and poets were amongst the first to flee the area, being noted cowards. One such resident, Wordsmith, was unlucky enough to be carried away by a quetzacoatlus into Dinotown. Lukout, a cosmologist woman, had enough sense to send for help, informing builders that there was a ghost problem. This information was passed on to Shion after his adventures in Demon World and the Wonder Boy promptly came to help. Shion's time on Skyrock wasn't a happy one. Before he even got there, the hero was immediately swamped by pterodactyl ghosts who stole his shield and forced him to use magic on his sword, ruining it. Lukout transported Shion to the mountains on a giant bird and showed him the staircase the dinosaurs were using to invade. A subsequent battle saw Shion fall off the mountains and required rescue from Lukout. After his journeys through Ghost World, Shion destroyed the staircase and ensures the Skyrock Mountains were safe from any more dinosaurs.
