The 2007-08 season marked the last in the Football Combination for the reserves. The decision was made by Lennie Lawrence at the end of the campaign to withdraw the team from the league due to the massively inconsistent standard of the opposition and the timing of the games. It was felt that arranging friendlies for the reserves would be more worthwhile, as the standard of opposition would be more consistent and of higher quality and the matches could be played at times to suit the club, for example when a first-team player is returning from injury or a trialist is at the club.
