An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Ritcher Scale hit the Batanes Islands in the northern Philippines on the morning of June 1 2008. No injuries, fatalities or damage were reported, said Manny Torres of the National Disaster Coordinating Center in Manila, Philippines. But aftershocks were fet as far as Tapei, Taiwan. The quake struck at a shallow depth of 22 kilometers (14 miles) under the seabed in the Philippines' Batanes Islands region at 0157 GMT.
