Hurricane Ignacio was a powerful Category 4 hurricane that made landfall in extreme western Mexico. It was the ninth named storm and final hurricane and major hurricane of the extremely quiet 1979 Pacific hurricane season. Ignacio had a low pressure of , making it the most powerful hurricane of the season. On October 23, a disturbance strengthened into a depression. The system continued to strengthen before becoming a tropical storm hours later, giving it the name Ignacio.
