The angels fought a genocidal war against the Faceless, seeking retribution for their "betrayal" in The Wars of Creation, thus beginning the Elder Wars. The Shantiri Empire was destroyed as "collateral damage", most of its inhabitants vanishing and their cities were cast down. The survivors of the Shantiri then separated and formed their own kingdoms, and the Shantiri Empire itself was slowly forgotten.
