A different EX140 version was sold in European markets in 1991–1993. The major difference between the two is that the European version has a plywood body, while this version for Japan has a solid agathis body. This EX140 features an agathis body mated to a one-piece maple neck with a traditional neck joint with a metal plate. It has a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. The pickups are an Ibanez EX humbuckers at the bridge and EX single coils in the middle and neck positions. Other components include a synchronized tremolo bridge.
