USS Xanthi (NCC-1743) was a Constitution-class, Achernar-subclass, heavy cruiser on active duty in Starfleet during the latter half of the 23rd century. (Star Fleet Technical Manual) In late 2285, Xanthii's commanding officer, Captain Sondra Veske, was reported killed while on routine planetary exploration. The incident was classified and Starfleet would not release any details "...for an indefinite length of time." An unidentified crewman of the Xanthii stated at the time, "...she saved all our lives..." As of January, 2286, a new captain had not been appointed. (Federation News Service 2:1)
