Fred Wigg Tower is a 17 storey tower block on the Montague Road Estate in Waltham Forest, East London. It was built in 1966 and is 45 metres tall. On Monday 12th December 2011, around 60 firefighters battled the blaze on the 13th floor of Fred Wigg House after they were called to the tower block at about 11.30pm. Seventeen people were rescued by fire crews from the upper floors, and 60 evacuated from other floors, a London Fire Brigade spokesman said. All were accounted for. The fire was declared under control at 1.04am and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
