He played junior hockey for the Coquitlam Express of the British Columbia Hockey League from 2001 to 2003 and then played for four years with the New Hampshire Wildcats. The Colorado Avalanche chose him 225th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Hemingway turned pro at the end of the 2006-07 season with the Albany River Rats. Since then he has spent most of his career in the ECHL and the Central League. He played in 2010-11 with the Belfast Giants in Great Britain.
