Mon Calamiri was the home planet of the aptly named, Mon Calamari. It was a water filled world, and was the planet where the huge Mon Calamari Star Cruisers were built.

The people of Mon Calamari, both the Quarren and the Calamari for which the world are named, prefer to live closer to the ocean. The ocean world has a well-established place in galactic trade, and it also sports cutting-edge technology and development. The large amphibious ships the Calamari people do not sell, but they export their well-made droids freely. Mon Calamari is currently in the process of appointing their next Senator. Traditionally a Senator is chosen from among the Calamari and Quarren High Councils. Councilor Lorath Toomba, the previous Senator, was known for his wisdom and candor, as well as his skill at debate. He was a shrewd defender of the ideals of the Republic, but he was openly curteous to everyone. Councilor Toomba passed away recently, and Meena Tills has been elected to the Senate in his place.
