Riccobono was born in Palermo, Sicily. He was made consigliere of the newly renamed Gambino crime family in 1957 after Joseph Biondo was elevated to Underboss. He served in the position of Consigliere until 1967 under Carlo Gambino who rose to the position of boss after the murder of Albert Anastasia. Riccobono had an arrest record dating back to 1936, which included; arrests for concealed weapon, conspiracy and extortion. Riccobono generated his wealth from the garment industry and dealing in jewellery and furs. He owned Christine Dresses and Toni-Bell Dresses. Riccobono was a former member of the NYC Louis Buchalter mob, under whom he most probbly got involved in labor racketeering in the garment district industry.
