The Vis pistol's design was based on that of the American Colt M1911 pistol. It was 205 mm long and weighed 1.1 kilograms when loaded and 950 grams when unloaded. It fired the 9 x 19 mm Parabellum cartridge a distance of approximately 70 yards at a speed of around 345 meters (1,131.6 feet) per second. It had a steel slide magazine clip capable of holding eight rounds. It used a short recoil system enabling it to fire 24 rounds (three magazines) in rapid succession.
