Synopsis
  • Oscar Hampel tells the bound and gagged Zatanna that he escaped from the Magic Museum to see her. Zatanna manages to break her restrains and attacks Hampel with magic. However, Hampel turns out to be immune to magic, so Zatanna transforms a chair into a cage to imprison him. Putting her costume on, Zatanna asks him what does he want from her and Hampel replies that he wants to be human again. Zatanna believes that being a puppet is what he deserves for killing a man and trying to kill her, but Hampel tells her his side of the story. He was a famous puppet artist, but as time passed, puppets became culturally irrelevant and his career went downhill. When he meet John Zatara, he accepted his offer to appear in his show in Boston. However, the theater's manager wanted a kickback, half the money Hampel had earned on all year. When Hampel refused, the managed pulled out a knife. Hampel had never hurt anyone else in his life and only killed the man in self-defense. When young Zatanna appeared, he panicked. Her father never gave him a chance to explain his actions. After Hampel finishes his story, Zatanna replies that for all his power and wisdom, her father was still human and sometimes, he made poor choices. Releasing Hampel, Zatanna takes him to Shadowcrest, hoping to find a way to reverse his condition. To be continued...
  • Young Zatanna exits the orthodontist's office just after getting her braces. Feeling uncomfortable, Zatanna decides to eat lunch at the mall, but has difficulties with her braces. Suddenly, she hears a gunshot and discovers a man who has been shot in the chest. Unable to use magic, she tries to catch up to the thief, but he knocks her down. As she recovers, Zatanna finds a Speak'n Spell toy. Taking it, Zatanna types a spell that transforms her braces into a cage to trap the thief. Later, while firefighters detach Zatanna's braces from her teeth, John congratulates her for doing the right thing, although he is concerned that she put herself in danger. As a reward, he decides to take her to the food court to eat tacos before they return to the orthodontist.
