- Quality is a property of items, which is represented in-game by the color of the item's name and (in most cases) by a title prefixed to the item's name. An item can have only one quality, which is determined when the item is created and remains unchanged, except in rare circumstances. Quality is a purely cosmetic property, and has no effect on gameplay other than some additional on-screen messages - these messages usually relay succeeded operations with an item.
- The item quality defines an item's stats and special properties. The higher the quality, the lesser the chance for an item to drop.
* Grey - Broken items. Below-standard, non-magical equipment with reduced stats. Very often dropped by standard monsters and fairly useless.
* White - Common items. Non-magical standard equipment without magical enhancements. Also the lowest possible quality of items bought from merchants and dropped by treasure containers (they will never sell/drop grey stuff).
* Yellow - Magical items. Uncommon items with random magical properties (affixes). Lowest possible quality of rings and amulets.
* Green - Rare items. Items with one or two more powerful magical properties (affixes). Monster-specific items of this quality (also called monster infrequents)

* Green - Rare items. Items with one or two more powerful magical properties (affixes). Monster-specific items of this quality (also called monster infrequents) have a special name and one or more fixed properties as well as an additional rare property (though without the affixes name).
* Blue - Epic items. Very rare items with unique names and a set of fixed properties (though some stat values may vary slightly). Cannot be enhanced with charms/relics.
* Purple - Legendary items. Extremely rare and powerful items with unique names and fixed properties (stat values may vary slightly). Cannot be enhanced with charms/relics. Legendary items (usually) do not drop in normal difficulty and rarely in epic difficulty. Note that quest items have the same color code, but they have no stats, cannot be equipped and sold. Set items do not have a special color, they are either of epic or legendary quality. Only items of rare (green) or lesser quality can be enhanced with a charm or relic.
