- Taoism is a religion in some of the Civilization games.
- Taoism involves belief in a spiritual force called "the Tao". The Tao is basically a big spirtual otherworldly thing that is all the souls and when you die, your soul goes back into the Tao. Taoism is more a philosophy than a religion but is traditionally included in religions, Taoism popular in China. There may be around 225 million Taoists worldwide. Many Taoists follow other religions as well as Taoism. [1]
- It is difficult to determine a single position on homosexuality in Taoism, as the term Taoism is used to describe a number of disparate religious traditions, from organised religious movements such as Quanzhen to Chinese folk religion and even a school of philosophy. The vast majority of adherents live in China and among Chinese Diaspora communities elsewhere, and so attitudes to homosexuality within Taoism often reflect the values and sexual norms of broader Chinese society (see Homosexuality in China). However, Taoist nuns are said to have exchanged love poems during the Tang dynasty.
- The emphasis in Taoist ethics is on compassion, moderation and humility. Taoist thought focusses on nature, the balance between humanity and the cosmos, health and longevity and attempting to produce harmony within the universe through knowing when to act and when not to act.

- The emphasis in Taoist ethics is on compassion, moderation and humility. Taoist thought focusses on nature, the balance between humanity and the cosmos, health and longevity and attempting to produce harmony within the universe through knowing when to act and when not to act. Popular Taoism involves reverance for ancestors and immortals. Although some Taoist priests disapprove of it, many people in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan mix elements of Taoism with Chinese folk religion, Buddhism and sometimes other religions. Many Chinese people consider themselves to be simultaneously Taoists, Buddhists and Confucianists, sometimes considering those beliefs to be philosophies rather than religions.
[1] Taoism believes in some type of impersonal life force that they claim is the First cause and that surrounds everyone. Good and evil spiritual beings are accepted by lay believers in the Tao system as manifestations of Tao which have become good or corrupt. [2]

The Taoist tradition holds that males need the energies of females, and vice versa, in order to bring about balance, completion and transformation. These energies thought to be best obtained through heterosexual relations. Passionate homosexual expression is usually discouraged because it is believed to not lead to human fulfillment. Taoism stresses the relationship between yin and yang: two opposing forces which maintain harmony through balance. Heterosexuality is seen as the physical and emotional embodiment of the harmonious balance between yin and yang. However, Taoist nuns are said to have exchanged love poems during the Tang dynasty.
- Taoism is a religion in some of the Civilization games.
