Alexander Bothwell (born 1855) was a Scottish-born builder and local politician active in the West Ham area. Born in Alford, Aberdeenshire, he was apprenticed as a joiner, eventually gaining employment in Edinburgh. The company for which he worked sent him to Londonin the 1880s. In 1887 he settled in Canning Town, starting his own business a builder. He built a large number of houses in West Ham for the working classes and became a large landlord and employer. He was elected to West Ham Borough Council in 1897 and was made an alderman in 1905. He was Mayor of West Ham for 1905-06.
