Koopley is Koops' father that went to challenge Hooktail ten years prior to the events in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Koopley managed to defeat Hooktail, but as he was about to finish her off, Hooktail tricked him into being merciful, and devoured him. Fortunately Koopley survived by curling into his shell. During his time in Hooktail's stomach he found the Crystal Star she was guarding and took it as a souvenir. When Mario and his friends defeated Hooktail, she regurgitated Koopley, who became reunited with his son and gave the Crystal Star to Mario. He likes eating chicken and can be really aggressive when taken away.

- Koopley is a character that first appeared in the game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for the GameCube. His species is a Koopa Troopa. In the game, the residents of Petalburg thought that Hooktail ate Koopley on the account that he never returned on his adventure to slay the beast. So Koopley's son, Koops, decides to be a partner with Mario so that he can go avenge his father, and to show that he's brave to the residents of the town. Once the duo enter Hooktail's lair and defeat Hooktail, Koopley will pop out of her mouth alive, with the Crystal Star that Mario is been looking for. Koopley then gives the star to Mario, thanking him for keeping his son safe, and for saving him.

| - That's Koops' dad, Koopley. He seems kind of out of it. Are all Koopas space cadets? Then again, Koops is really with it... Maybe that's 'cause his dad is like this... Anyway, Koopley does worry about Koops a lot, so I guess he's a good dad after all.

Like most Koopa Troopas, his name starts with a Koop. During Mario's quest, Koopley will send you e-mails via the SP-Mail.
