- Light Infantry are skirmisher units in Empire: Total War.
- Light infantry wear CMC Light Combat Armor.
- While modest in performance, they are cheap to train and easy to mass, although quite susceptible to area effect weapons and squishing. GDI infantry is at an advantage, as they have Combat Medics to assist them on the battlefield, whereas the Brotherhood soldiers have to fend for themselves and persevere.
- Light Infantry (M)Gender: MaleRace: HumanLight Infantry is part of your starter party. They are generally treated as the jack of all trades. Their stats tend to be slightly above average but like their jack of all trade status, lends himself poorly to specialization. In the early sections of the game, the male Light Infantry characters will form the backbone of your greatsword users. Their naming scheme is based on American Presidents.
- The light infantry (or skirmishes) is a specialized type of infantry, to foray into fast and deep within enemy territory. Soldiers are equipped with lighter equipment to allow maneuvers to be performed with speed.
- Light Infantry are fast-moving, short-ranged, lightly-armored foot units. They are the fastest type of all combat infantry and effective against other infantry units and especially Foot Archers. Light Infantry is countered with cavalry units, though Light Infantry can be used successfully against Ranged Cavalry. In formations, they line up behind the Heavy Infantry.

Initially, Light Infantry are effective primarily against Foot Archers, and less so against Heavy Infantry. In the Gunpowder Age, the Light Infantry becomes obsolete and is replaced with the slower-firing but more powerful and durable Gunpowder Infantry, who are very effective against Heavy Infantry. The unit line receives another major upgrade in the Industrial Age, when Modern Infantry with automatic rifles takes the place of Gunpowder Infantry. Note that the term "Light Infantry" is sometimes used to refer to units of the succeeding classes as well, as these basically retain their role on the battlefield.
