The TT-5 was originally a prototype Galactic Empire mobile artillery unit, an experiment in reducing firepower of the primary bombardment cannon of an artillery piece to add repulsorlifts and possibly point-defense units to make it a defensible, mobile artillery platform. Controlled field tests were conducted under the hand of then-Commodore Daala on Cardia, where a dozen unescorted TT-5 units attacked a Rebel Alliance-held island after landing on a remote part of the waterlocked location. Long-range pulse laser bombardment killed the insurgents after just less than an hour of intense bombardment. Two thousand Rebels and ten retrofitted ground assault speeders were destroyed, and not a single TT-5 vehicle had been even scratched.

| - The TT-5 was originally a prototype Galactic Empire mobile artillery unit, an experiment in reducing firepower of the primary bombardment cannon of an artillery piece to add repulsorlifts and possibly point-defense units to make it a defensible, mobile artillery platform. However, Tyber Zann had gained word of this live-fire test via bribed Cardia Defense Fleet coordinator, and he managed to slip underneath the cover umbrella of the Imperial Star Destroyer Manticore, which Daala was using as an observation platform, and snag three TT-5 pieces with concentration ion cannon fire and then whisk them away in cloaked dropships while the corrupted naval officer ran an all-hands attack simulation on the Star Destroyer, manipulating the sensors to show phantom waves of incoming Rebel ships while Zann slipped away with his prizes.
