The Goddard Space Center (GSC) was a major NASA space research laboratory established on May 1, 1959 as NASA's first space flight center. It is located approximately 6.5 miles northeast of Washington, D.C. in Greenbelt, Maryland. When GDI begun first testing it's Ion Cannon technology, in order to protect the space-based weaponry, an A-SAT defence system was established, with the hub placed at the Goddard Space Center.

abstract
  • The Goddard Space Center (GSC) was a major NASA space research laboratory established on May 1, 1959 as NASA's first space flight center. Much of the center's old infrastructure was left intact, with GDI adding new facilities to existing ones. The center structure was the Orbital Defence Control that coordinated the whole GDI missile defence system, composed of kinetic kill vehicles, laser satellites and even the Ion Cannons. Centralisation of such an important network was a tactical mistake, as Nod forces infiltrated the center and destroyed the control system, rendering the missile defence useless and allowing Kane to strike at Philadelphia, destroying it. As a result, GDI's A-SAT system was offline during the early stages of the war, depriving GDI of its most powerful weapons, the Ion Cannons. Eventually, GDI managed to improvise a new A-SAT control system, allowing them to use their Ion Cannons to full effect during the Siege of Temple Prime and later conflicts with the Scrin.
