Sahdra Kalar was a widely known Jedi Master during the time of the Clone Wars. Born on the icy planet of Valen, Kalar's father was a hunter for their family’s village, while his mother was a gatherer. When Kalar was two, a Jedi Apprentice, sent by the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, revealed to Kalar's parents that their son was Force-sensitive, and requested that he be taken to the Jedi Temple for training in the ways of the Force. Honored by the Jedi's request, they obliged.

Born on the icy planet of Valen, Kalar's father was a hunter for their family’s village, while his mother was a gatherer. When Kalar was two, a Jedi Apprentice, sent by the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, revealed to Kalar's parents that their son was Force-sensitive, and requested that he be taken to the Jedi Temple for training in the ways of the Force. Honored by the Jedi's request, they obliged. As a teenager, Kalar was first trained by Master Yoda in the basic ways of lightsaber combat and the Force. At the age of twelve, an aged Jedi Knight, Rissik Varn, selected Kalar to be his apprentice. The two developed a strong bond together, the two often speaking highly of one another to other Jedi. In 22 BBY, Kalar and Varn were tasked with assisting Jedi Master Mace Windu, along with several hundred other Jedi, with freeing Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, apprentice Anakin Skywalker, and Senator Padme Amidala from the Trade Federation on Geonosis. The Jedi were ambushed, and, in the arena where the first phase of the battle took place, Varn sacrificed himself by absorbing a volley of blaster fire from a number of droids, in order to allow his apprentice to escape the arena. In the years following the Battle on Geonosis, Kalar devoted himself to studying the ways of the Force. He gained the respect of many of his peers, and eventually took on an apprentice. After the assassination attempt of Palpatine by Mace Windu, Kalar and several other Jedi fled to Valen, and created a small refugee base for other Jedi survivors.
