Als Freezer den Planeten erreicht leben hier noch etwa 100 Namekianer. Vor vielen hundert Jahren wurde der Planet von einer Dürre heimgesucht, von der er sich nur langsam erholt. Der Großteil der Bewohner Nameks starb damals. Auf dem Planten leben sehr gefährliche Monster. In der Freezer-Saga kommt Freezer mit seinen Gefolgsleuten nach Namek, um die dortigen Dragon Balls zu suchen. Mit ähnlichen Interessen kommen auch Vegeta, Son Gohan, Bulma, Kuririn und Son Goku auf diesen Planeten. Beim Kampf von Son Goku gegen Freezer, bei dem Son Goku erstmals zum Super Saiyajin wurde, wurde Namek zerstört. Allerdings wurde er schon kurze Zeit später, mit Hilfe der irdischen Dragon Balls wieder erschaffen und die Namekianer leben nun wieder dort.
