  • Sanzo Murakawa was the leader in one of Japan's most powerful Yakuza crime familes, and his influence spread throughout the city of Tokyo. He controlled a corporate empire with Murakawa Industries, centered in a tower protected by officers ready to assume his duties and personal bodyguard Iwao Ryusaki, the latter being a hulking giant. Mihai Niculescu and Meta Global Funds purchased his company and used it as their primary force in Asia. Murakawa Industries supported the research of the Omega Strain, and had a secure laboratory on its upper floors for experimenting with viral samples. Murakawa's criminal associations with the CDP and Yong-jun Kim led to an incident where Kim obtained the Omega Strain and North Korea delivered a nuclear weapon to Mikhas Ivankov in exchange. Murakawa had believed Kim was a South Korean businessman. As such, Kim escaped with the virus but he was in fact a member of the North Korean secret police working as a double agent to acquire Syphon Filter. As Niculescu began to shut down other corporations tied to his consortium, he sent Mara Aramov to handle the Murakawa crisis. An Agency operation that attempted to capture Murukawa alive for interrogation went awry when Aramov made him commit suicide for trusting Kim, which he did before the IPCA operatives entered his office.
