Ketsuiki-ringo, most commonly known as Ketsu, could be made from many different Rokugani fruits. Processed ketsu appeared as a grey or brown powder that smelled of bitter almonds. It could be absorbed through the skin, inhaled, ingested or injected. Ketsu prevented red blood cells from absorbing oxygen, so the victim "suffocates to death." Kitsuki Magistrates had learned to identify it from the bitter almond smell, and that the blood took on a bright cherry red color.
