In early January 2012, Giesbrecht stated that the character isn't in the show more often "Mostly because she wasn't supposed to be there at all." Holly Dash is the first original character to appear in the show. She shares her design with "Ballad", shares her mane and tail style and part of her name with Rainbow Dash, shares her mane and tail style with Daring Do, "Doseydotes", Sugar Grape, Lucky Dreams, and Léon, and shares her tail style with "Sunstone".
