The carriage was extremely old and had a broken door. It was then put into a station siding and was likely to be sold for scrap. Meanwhile, there was a fire at a seaside café which gives Thomas an idea. The coach is sent to the works for a refit and is turned into a café. It is positioned on a siding near to the seaside. It is currently unknown if the coach is still in use or whether this was just a temporary arrangement whilst the regular café was being rebuilt. The Carriage Café only appeared in the 1993 magazine story, The Carriage Café. It should not be confused with the Refreshment Coach.
