Doing his best in the heavy pressure, Ecco attacks once more, the squid dropping the pearl. He retrieves it but the pearl's radioactive properties cause him to black out.

As the current eases off, Ecco is shocked to see luminescent fish he has never seen before but he must continue further down, where he discovers the Black Pearl in the "hands" of a Many-Fins. Ecco uses his sonar to attack the squid, but it just makes it angry. He tries a more direct approach, but Many-Fins releases a cloud of stinging ink and escapes deeper into the trench. Fortunately, the upcurrent returns Ecco to his own waters and The Asterite collects his pearl before removing the harmful energy from Ecco's body. The alien grants Ecco knowledge of The Vortex's language. His friend then grants him a protective barrier and enough force for Ecco to be propelled into space - the Sea of Stars! Ecco soon reaches the Vortex gateway and tricks it into capturing him. The cross-dimensional turbulence takes him to a new world, where the water is thicker, and calls out to his old friends. Although he can barely remember his old language. After everyone is gathered, Ecco reveals they are all about to return to Planet Earth and informs The Asterite that they are ready. The plan begins and Ecco tricks the gateway into searching for an intruder. Ecco launches a sonar beam that disrupts the gate's sensors so that The Asterite can send a tractor beam to the alien world. As the Earth creatures swim into the light, they soon find themselves back in familiar waters. Realising what is going on, the gateway tries to reverse the tractor beam but all of Ecco's friends are now through. With only Ecco left, Ecco uses brute force to destroy the gateway but the vortex home is destroyed too quickly, leaving him stranded. From across space, The Asterite guides Ecco to make lots of noise, inviting a pair of Vortex guards. Seeing that Ecco is the only one left, they try to use a Mind Probe to learn more, but Ecco destroys the first guard. The other tries to escape on his vehicle, but Ecco follows and knocks him off. The dolphin activates controls on the ship that summons a vortex beam. The Asterite then boosts its power and returns Ecco home. With their mission over, The Asterite returns home after warning Ecco that The Vortex won't pass up on a good meal that easily.
