Davis' debut came during the 1982 season, when he competed in a trio of races at Hickory. It was a solid year for the driver, finishing 10th at the track in August and then pairing up with a pair of 11ths in the September and October race. Davis' next start came during the 1983 season, when he competed five times to earn a career-high 39th in the year end points. Four of those races again came at Hickory, where Davis earned a career-best finish of 7th during the June race. But for the most part, Davis struggled at the track, finishing no better than 18th there in three races. Davis also made his first career start at Greenville, finishing 10th. Davis did not return until the 1985 season, when he tacked four more starts on his resume. It started off as a struggle for Davis, losing his brakes to finish 17th and then blowing an engine to finish last (24th) at North Wilkesboro. But Davis had a strong finish to the year, recording his fourth and final career top-ten with a 10th place showing at Rougemont, and then showing 13th in the fall Hickory event. Davis' final two races came during the 1986. Unforunately, it was not the end Davis was looking for. He fell three laps down in the spring race at Hickory and struggled to a 15th place finish, but that was better than an engine problem at Rougemont that left Davis 22nd.
