abstract
  • With only eight games remaining in the 2008-09 season, Rovers welcomed Huddersfield Town to the Memorial Stadium for a clash of League One mid-table sides. At the start of the game, both teams were level on 54 league points, but Rovers were ahead in the table with the better goal difference; +18 to -6. The game had a late-season mid-table feel to it, with neither side having any real chance of promotion or relegation the match was played in a subdued atmosphere. The lack of noise from the spectators was commented upon during the Radio Bristol match commentary and reports from the game on Sky Sports News. There were two changes to the Rovers starting eleven from the previous match, a comfortable 2–0 victory over Stockport County. Aaron Lescott, who had played every game up to this point was rested and replaced by Joe Jacobson, while Jeff Hughes was suffering from a hand injury and had his place filled by Craig Disley. On the bench, Lescott and Hughes were both named as substitutes, replacing Disley and Sean Rigg. The first half of the match was one of few chances for either side, but Jacobson had struggled to cope with the runs of Huddersfield players down the right wing and he was replaced by Aaron Lescott at half time, who kept up his record of having played in every game this season. Shortly afterwards Jo Kuffour gave Rovers the lead with a spectacular bicycle kick, but the joy was only temporary. Goals on 70 and 78 minutes by Anthony Pilkington and Danny Cadamarteri gave Huddersfield the win, dropping Rovers two places in the table, down to 14th.
