William Lawrence (4 February 1789 - 25 November 1855) was a businessman and Liberal Party politician. Born in Cornwall, in 1832 he became a member of the Common Council of the City of London representing Bread Street Ward. From 1848 he was an alderman for the ward in 1849-50 served as Sheriff. Two of his sons, Sir William Lawrence and Sir James Clarke Lawrence served as lord Mayors of London. He was a member of the Tower Hamlets Commission of Sewers and the Holborn and Finsbury Commission of Sewers.
