During a mission in space, Lang came into contact with an electrical field which caused a series of side effects. Steve Austin was consulted in regards to Lang's health, and charged with determining whether or not he was fit for future space launches. Lang discovered that, due to the electrical field, his intellect was greatly increased, and he was also able to control other people's actions. He also learned, unintentionally, that his mind could also be used to kill. Ultimately, however, Lang's brain couldn't take the accelerated activity, and it soon burned out, killing Lang.
