In 1943-44 he got into 17 games for the Wings and even played against his own team once when the Bruins' Herb Gardiner was injured and Franks was an emergency loan. He retired in 1945 after playing for the St. Louis Flyers. In his NHL career he played in 42 regular season games and one playoff game. That one playoff game got his name on the Stanley Cup in 1937.
