Mayor Kroop is the mayor of Petalburg in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. He allows Mario access to Shhwonk Fortress and informs him that Hooktail has the first Crystal Star. Kroop is an elderly turtle with large, white, bushy eyebrows, a beard, and green, wrinkly skin. He lives in the only pink house in Petalburg. When Mario first visits Kroop, he is mistaken for a burglar, and told to take anything but Kroop's pictures of himself and "the Missus", or his wife, who is implied to be deceased. When he realizes Mario is not a burglar, he trails off into another conversation entirely, talking about his past. Kroop has poor vision (explaining his mistaking Mario for a burglar) and is hard of hearing, as well. As a result, he refers to Mario as "Murphy" throughout the game.
