The role of the monarch of Sekowo has historically alternated between a ceremonial and symbolic role and that of an actual absolute ruler. The modern era monarchy came into existence during the First Sekowan Empire in 2723 under the House of Reynard. In 2852 the Ishida Dynasty would become the royal house of Sekowo under the Imperial Family Bill. After much internal conflict and tension, the monarchy was disestablished in November 2891 and replaced by the People's Democratic Republic, which later became the Second Commonwealth of Sekowo. Monarchy again returned in February 2925 under Yukio Kumiko of the Ishida Dynasty in the Empire Magnificent. Kumiko would later be removed from the Ishida Dynasty and lead the Yukio Dynasty. The Ishida Dynasty returned in full power under the Imperial Federation of Sekowo in September 2980 under a co-monarchy between Kenji Ishida and Miyako Ishida.
