Always assume good faith when a new editor comes onto the wiki. If they make a bad (but well intentioned) edit, leave a polite notice on their talk page and let them know of their mistake. Tell them about how the wiki organizes and styles its pages, and link them to the policy pages. And, most importantly, tell them that if they have any questions, they should not hesitate to ask! Asking is not a sign of stupidity - it is a sign that someone is curious and is willing to improve their knowledge of the subject.

Asking is not a sign of stupidity - it is a sign that someone is curious and is willing to improve their knowledge of the subject. Newbies are important!. Just like young people are important to an economy, young editors are important on a wiki because they often bring in new insight and ideas to a community, and many turn out to be amazing contributors of brilliant content. They also serve as replacements in case the existing community loses interest and begin dropping out. Don't pick at small mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes, even experienced editors. The edits of newbies should not be over-scrutinized or judged higher than other ones. Don't mistake ignorance for malice. Learn to distinguish between a good faith edit and a bad faith edit. When in doubt, politely message the user explaining their mistake. If they respond politely and make better edits, then they're making them in good faith. If they respond with hostility, or ignore your warning and continue making the edits, it might be appropriate to assume bad faith. If you realize that you've accidentally bitten a newbie, apologize and rectify your mistakes. Then continue to introduce them to the wiki, in a polite and responsible manner. You never know - someday they may become a renowned wiki editor, and you were the starting line!
