An anti-inflammatory is a pharmaceutical that acts to reduce inflammation. About half of analgesics are also anti-inflammatories, and steroids are often used for their anti-inflammatory effect. Although they all work to reduce inflammation, they often have a different mechanism of action, such as reducing histamines or preventing the production of prostaglandins.
