Lugdunensis was named for its military capital of Lugdunum (Lyon). Over the years the city of Lutetia (Paris) became a center for trade and civilization in Western Europe and then the Capital of the new Province of Aquitania which then split into the Province of Francia. Being part of the Provinces of Gaul Lugdunensis has the full name of Gallia Lugdunensis. Due to the violence of the wars which were made by the Province of Aquitania to spread into Lugdunensis and the later Frankish Revolution there are no records remaining for a list of Governors of Lugdunensis.
