Three Truxtun-class destroyers served in the United States Navy. USS Truxtun (DD-14), USS Whipple (DD-15) and USS Worden (DD-16) were all built by Maryland Steel Company and commissioned in 1902. After service during World War I, all were sold in 1920 and converted to merchant vessels. Part of the original 16 destroyers authorized by Congress in 1898, they escorted convoys during World War I.
