| - Vines Garru was a Human female from Coruscant. Born during the years of the Galactic Republic, she attended a university on Coruscant and earned a doctorate in genetics, performing research into the science of the modificaton, removal and addition of genes. After the revelation of the Grand Army of the Republic, a force of millions of genetically identical clones, Garru selected a few to participate in her research, which she ensured remained humane, caring for the clone volunteers herself. Towards the end of the Clone Wars she discovered a method of removing the genetic alterations that the Kaminoans had implanted in the clone soldiers, allowing them to live lives of a normal span rather than suffer advanced aging. Soon after the transformation of the Republic in to the Galactic Empire, which Garru privately opposed, she was contacted by Alpha-78, one of the Alpha-class Advanced Recon Commandos of the Grand Army. He had read many of her papers and journals and wanted her to rid him of the advanced aging genes that he had been implanted with on Kamino. She agreed and performed the necessary operation on Alpha-78. Soon after, her laboratory was raided by Imperial stormtroopers, who had come searching for 78. Angered by the Empire's destruction of her life's work, Garru fled from Coruscant to Alderaan. For over a decade Garru lived a peaceful life on Alderaan, becoming the personal physician of Bail Prestor Organa for a time, before moving once again to Chandrila in order to teach at the University of Hanna City. Here, she struck up a friendship with Chandrila's representative in the Imperial Senate Mon Mothma. Almost eight years after arriving on Chandrila, Garru was approached by Mon Mothma and asked to serve as a member of the military of the fledgling Alliance to Restore the Republic, and Garru agreed almost without hesitation. Serving as a scientist developing ways in which to augment the fighting capabilities of Alliance soldiers, Garru relocated once again, this time to Naboo. Under the pretect of teaching at Theed University, Garru secretly performed research and experiments to further the cause of the Alliance. She remained undercover on Naboo for almost ten years, by which time many of the Empire's leading figures, such as Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader and Grand Admiral Thrawn had been killed and the Alliance had become the New Republic. However, she continued to teach at the university, having developed a liking for it. Fifteen years after the Battle of Yavin, Garru retired from her job, returning to Coruscant for the first time in over thirty years. She lived peacefully for many years, outliving many of her contemporaries, including Mon Mothma, who died peacefully in her sleep in 24 ABY. Garru's peaceful life was soon shattered, however, by the most devastating war the galaxy had yet faced. The Yuuzhan Vong, an extremely warlike extragalactic race, invaded the galaxy and quickly began to overwhelm both the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant. Garru, realising that the galactic capital would be a prime target for the seemingly unstoppable Vong, decided to leave the planet during the second year of the war, just standard days before the conquest of Coruscant actually occured. Going once again to Naboo, Garru attempted to resume a semblance of normal life, though the knowledge of Coruscant's fate haunted her. Although Coruscant was reclaimed and the war won two years later , Garru refused to return, not wanting to see what the Vong had done to her homeworld. Instead, she spent the remainder of her days living in Theed, enjoying her old age before passing away in 43 ABY.
