| - Eric Marx is the son-in-law, and co-conspirator in the murder, of Frank Anderson, seemingly over a matter of a loan and a rent-controlled apartment. He first appears in "The Double Down" as a supportive husband, helping his wife, Christina Marx, cope with the loss of her father. When Beckett and Castle piece together the actual chain of events which make up this latest case, she instantly hones in on Eric as the secondary, and thus submissive, in the plot. Mr. Anderson, it seems, was killed over a simple matter of money his son-in-law had borrowed which he couldn't, or at the very least really didn't want to, repay, and Mr. Anderson lived in a rent-controlled apartment which, if it stayed in the family, i.e. was taken over by Christina, would remain incredibly cheap. Beckett successfully goads Eric into a confession by her (false) declaration that Jason Cosway has rolled over on him, in return for a reduced sentence. Eric gave the team the clear impression of being the 'follower' in the conspiracy, which was why Beckett targetted him.
