Calvin had found himself mysteriously shrunken down to the size of an insect to an insect after having gone outside. As such, he was threatened by a normally harmless praying mantis, which tried to step on him. However, he was saved by a frog that caught and swallowed the mantis. Calvin In Twofold Insect-Sized Form was analogous to Calvin imagining the insects' perspective on being crushed by humans. In turn, his rescue was analogous to Calvin placing a frog on his mother's plate, on the basis that "frogs are (...) friends".
