• Kelva was an inhabited planet in the Andromeda Galaxy. This was the homeworld for the Kelvans, a warp-capable non-humanoid species. In the mid-20th century, Kelva was the capital of the Kelvan Empire. Kelvans predicted rising radiation levels in Andromeda would render their home uninhabitable to their species within ten thousand years, and were seeking new territories to conquer and occupy. A rapidly forming crystalline structure called sahsheer, reminiscent of flower blossoms found in the Milky Way Galaxy, was native to Kelva. (TOS: "By Any Other Name" )

Kelvans predicted rising radiation levels in Andromeda would render their home uninhabitable to their species within ten thousand years, and were seeking new territories to conquer and occupy. According to an idea suggested by Spock, a robot ship could be sent to Kelva along with the Federation proposal of peaceful relations and to suggest some planets in the galaxy that the Kelvans could colonize. The Kelvan response would, however, take six hundred years to arrive. A rapidly forming crystalline structure called sahsheer, reminiscent of flower blossoms found in the Milky Way Galaxy, was native to Kelva. (TOS: "By Any Other Name" )
